Train Layout

I originally had a simple Hornby train mat, which was glued to a piece of chip board, but the boys wanted to increase the layout and so we set about building a much larger layout using floorboards, with a section cut out of the middle, so that both boys can stand and control the trains. Since building the original layout, we have now managed to attach it to the ceiling of the garage, using a pulley system operated by a winch, as well as adding a beach, WWII RAF Airbase, and a German invasion scene.

Have a good look at the detailed photographs, some are very detailed and I’ve tried to add some text as well (although still a work in progress)

Enjoy!

You can jump to the different build phases here:

Phase 1

Phase 2

Phase 3

Phase 1

Here we have some images of the original layout, as mentioned it was a simple mat on chipboard, which was attached to the wall of the garage - nothing too complicated, but the boys used to enjoy playing with it.

Only issue was that the chipboard was weak, especially around the hinge joints where it was attached to the wall.

So we decided to upgrade and built a completely new layout .....Follow the link, by clicking on the below photograph
